The epitome of a Mid Devon inn
Thorverton is the kind of village people dream about: thatch and cob, a stream running right through its heart, and a pub at the centre of it all.
Its name goes back almost a thousand years, to Thurferth's tun, the estate of an Anglo-Scandinavian settler, recorded as Torverton in 1182. Cob cottages, a medieval church and a little bridge over the brook have watched village life roll by ever since.
The Thorverton Arms has been at the heart of it for generations: the place for a pint after work, a Sunday roast, a celebration or a quiet night's stay.
Just minutes from Exeter, Crediton, Cullompton and Tiverton, it's the perfect stop for a pint by the fire or a peaceful night away.

Winner · 2025A chapter worth remembering
Steve & Mandy's Four in a Bed win
In 2022 Steve and Mandy Plumridge took on the Arms, renovated it from top to bottom and turned it into what they called "a hub, not a pub". Guests arrived as strangers and left as friends.
In 2025 they welcomed the cameras for Channel 4's Four in a Bed, and won, famous for their warmth and Steve's legendary breakfasts.
In January 2026 the whole gable end wall came down and the pub was shut for nearly a year. The building is now being carefully restored, ready to welcome the village back.
Whilst sadly this meant Steve and Mandy moved on, we remain great friends. They can still be seen in the pub from time to time for autographs and pictures!
